Inside the Kingsbridge Office

Kingsbridge Office 1

Regular readers of the Kingsbridge blog will know that we’ve been making a few changes to our Tewkesbury HQ over the summer. Having outgrown our original office, we took the opportunity to take on the building next door too.

Whilst late spring and early summer was spent working amidst a mass of cables, we’ve been fine tuning from June onwards. Having a bit more space has allowed us to invest in a few nice perks. We thought we’d take you through a few.

Kingsbridge 10th Birthday Party

Party 1

When it comes to getting older, it’s generally not the ticking clock of time itself you remember but the way you celebrate another year passing by. A great party (whether real or fictional) will go down in history, remembered by all who attended. See Trimalchio’s Dinner Party from Petronius’ Satyricon. Or Jay Gatsby’s infamous Saturday Night Parties. Or Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday. All landmark celebrations, and all residents in the great pantheon of having a good time.

When it came to throwing our own party, our goals weren’t quite as lofty. We wanted to celebrate our 10th birthday with the people who made Kingsbridge the company it is today. We wanted good food, good music, and fun for all. And a falconry display.

Rather than regale our readers with stories from the day, we thought we’d simply stick to showcasing a few of our favourite images. Many thanks to our esteemed colleague Liam for providing the vast majority of the photos, and apologies to anyone who might not be too happy with any less-than-flattering images now living on in perpetuity on the Internet. A huge thank you also to our hosts Steve and Janet, and to Kelly for organising everything. See below for bucking broncos, karaoke, an array of face paint and much more.

Kingsbridge at National Freelancers Day 2017

On 8th June we attended this year’s National Freelancers Day. We couldn’t have been prouder. Although we’ve attended several in the past, IPSE’s flagship event was bigger and better than ever before. In tandem with the ever-growing number of contractors and freelancers in the UK, NFD has grown from a relatively small gathering to a multi-site behemoth with over 20 events across the UK this year.

As vocal and avid supporters of the self-employed ourselves, we’re strong advocates of the excellent work IPSE put in to get their voices heard. This year’s NFD welcomed over 400 attendees, a testament, as IPSE note, “to the growing strength and importance of the freelancing community.”

10 Years of Contracting

Kingsbridge 10th Anniversary

A lot can happen in 10 years. Unexpected champions emerge. Countries can rise and fall. Our world gets smaller and our borders close as our horizons expand. But what about closer to home? As regular readers of this blog will know by now, Kingsbridge Contractor Insurance is celebrating its 10th birthday this year. Whilst we like to think of ourselves as a company with an eye very much on the future we, like everyone else, enjoy the chance to revel in nostalgia every now and then.

National Freelancers Day 2017

National Freelancers Day 2017

As champions of contractors, freelancers, and the self-employed we’re delighted to announce that we’ve joined the list of sponsors for National Freelancers Day 2017. With the number of self-employed workers in the UK increasing year on year their contribution to the economic landscape of the UK continues to grow.

Thursday 8th June will mark the 9th annual NFD celebration. Curated and hosted by our good friends at IPSE, this year’s event will take place at King’s Place in central London (right next to King’s Cross station). Whether you’re a student designer or a veteran engineer, there’ll be something for you.

Kingsbridge Turns 10: Family Fun Day

Kingsbridge 10th Birthday

As we’ve mentioned once or twice on these pages before, Kingsbridge Contractor Insurance is celebrating its 10th birthday this summer. Whilst most 10 year olds would be delighted with an Owlicorn Hatchimal or a Nerf N-Strike Elite Terrascout Remote Control Drone Blaster (yes, we had to Google those), we’re doing something a little different.

Later in June we’ll be throwing our own birthday party for staff (and their families). Unfortunately we couldn’t find room for pass the parcel or musical chairs, but we do have one or two back-ups including:

  • Funfair stalls (cork shooting, hook a duck, tin can alley)
  • Bouncy castles
  • Face painting
  • A bucking bronco
  • Total wipeout
  • Ferret racing
  • Falconry
  • Bandeoke
  • Popcorn
  • Organic ice lollies
  • A hog roast
  • A barbecue

We’ll be covering more of our 10th birthday shenanigans on the blog over the next few weeks, so if you’re a fan of pictures of senior management members letting loose on giant inflatable castles do make sure to check in.

In the meantime take a look at the poster we’ve put together for the event above. Early weather forecasts suggest a ‘partly sunny’ day in the low 20’s – good enough for us! Here’s hoping it stays that way.

The Big Cheese (Evening)

Wine Cheese Evening

Although we know everything there is to know about insurance here at Kingsbridge HQ, there are one or two things we’re not quite as sharp on. Cheese is one. Wine is another. As part of our series of staff events we thought we’d try and remedy the situation.

In a former life Mark Everett, one of our Business Development Managers, was an esteemed oenologist. In his current life, friend of Kingsbridge Henry Ravenhill helps to run the excellent Woefuldane Organic Dairy. We brought Mark and Henry together and asked them to draw up a list of cheeses with a selection of wines to complement them.

As Mark would readily point out, getting the right mix is somewhat dependent on the palette of the person sampling the goods. Whilst the combination of a slice of Roquefort and a 2011 Castel nau de Suduiraut might be masterful to some, it might leave others a little nonplussed. Nonetheless, everyone dived in with élan.

Kingsbridge Hand Heavy Defeat to 1st Option in Local Derby

Kingsbridge Football

It’s not often that a serene weekday evening at the end of March produces a football match for the ages. But then it’s not often that the mighty Kingsbridge Casuals face-up to close rivals 1st Option FC. The leafy confines of Stratford-upon-Avon provided a suitably deceptive location for a thunderous battle between two evenly-matched sides (on paper, at least.) Were it not for the unfortunate lack of substitutes on the 1st Option bench it’s likely that proceedings would have been closer, but after a promising start the match ended a one-sided affair: 15 – 8 to the men in yellow and black.
