A Different Gear: Kingsbridge Sponsors Charity Bike Rides

Sponsored Bike Rides

Whilst many of the staff here enjoy a physical activity or two, it’s a sad fact that most of us spend our days seated (whether in a car or at a desk). As such, it was a pleasure to live vicariously through the Herculean efforts of two groups of cyclists closely affiliated with Kingsbridge recently. We were delighted to sponsor both the 3 Cycling Amigos of Pennon Group on the well-trodden but still fearsome path from Jon O’Groats to Land’s End, as well as our good friend Giles Derry of Dunedin and his crew Lost! Again on their almighty journey from Locorotondo in Italy to St. Tropez in France.

The causes both groups were riding for made the grueling trips very much worth it, with Pennon’s sojourn raising money for Cancer Research UK and Force Cancer Charity and Giles’ trip raising funds for WellChild – all tremendously deserving charities staffed by and looking after truly amazing people.

As with many things in life, both journeys were far from smooth. Whether battling punctures, hunger, exhaustion, terrible roads, the weather, or a combination of all five, there were many hurdles to overcome. And yet each time an obstacle fell in their path both groups pushed on, persevered, and made their end destinations.

Rather than stealing their (very well-earned) thunder, please take the time to read more about both journeys. You can read about the adventures of the Lost! Again team on their blog here, and you can find out all about the 3 Cycling Amigos and their path from one end of the UK to the other on their Facebook page here. The 3 Cycling Amigos have currently raised almost £6,500, whilst Lost! Again appear very likely to hit their £40,000 target. We’d like to offer our congratulations to all involved one last time, and we were delighted to be given the opportunity to sponsor both.

Take a look at some pictures from both trips below:
